Jonah’s Story

A young couple came into the pregnancy center, but they were visibly distressed. They were pregnant but felt strongly that the financial timing was “not right.” This, coupled with all of their mounting concerns about the inconveniences having a baby would cause, led them to consider an abortion. The woman was fighting nature’s motherly instinct, and she placed the final decision on the man, Jonah.

Jonah was an atheist, so the idea of abortion seemed like a plausible option. He knew what the world had told him: abortion was legal, it was safe physically and emotionally and choosing life was just not a good choice at this time in his life. But in the 30 minutes they spent at the pregnancy center, the team played out several scenarios with Jonah and his girlfriend. They kept coming to the conclusion, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” And it became quite clear that despite the overwhelming circumstances they were facing, Jonah could not shake his intellectual understanding that they were in fact nurturing life in a woman’s womb.

Jonah decided he just needed refuge and a quiet place to think. The couple left the center. The following week, the center touched base with the couple, and they had decided to choose life for their baby.
