all time is the legal killing of innocent
human life in the womb. This is true in
terms of sheer numbers, with over 65
million innocent human beings killed in
the U.S. through abortion since 1973.i
The estimates, worldwide, vary widely
but the World Health Organization
(not a friend to the Pro-Life Movement)
estimates 200,000 abortions/day or
73 million/year.ii This atrocity extends
beyond these staggering and sickening
numbers when we think about the
mental, emotional, moral, and spiritual
harm plaguing individuals involved in
this practice and our society as a whole,
which has legalized and condoned it.
People mistakenly think that this violence ended (or was reduced) with the overturning of Roe v. Wade on June 4, 2022. In actuality, the rate of abortion in the U.S. has steadily risen since 2017, mainly due to the increasing availability of the abortion pill. The Dobbs v. Jackson decision did not stop this disturbing trend, as only thirteen states have currently outlawed abortion.iii Over twenty states and Washington D.C. offer wide access to the abortion pill at pharmacies like Walgreens and CVSiv and, despite some state-wide bans, abortion pills are being sent to women in every state in the U.S., every single day. Chemical abortion now represents at least 63% of all abortionsv (and likely more due to the mailorder situation now in place). In addition to the obvious deadly nature of the abortion pill for the child in the womb, nearly 11% of all women who take it experience sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging or another serious adverse event within 45 days, which is 22 times higher than the figure the FDA cites.vi
I share these statistics to remind all pro-lifers of the reality of the evil we are up against. “For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Eph 6:12). We must renew our efforts to “fight the good fight” (1 Tim 6:12) and continue to engage in whatever areas of the Pro-Life Movement God has called us to.
At Vitae, the mission we have been called to is to conduct research and share messaging strategies with others so, together, we can build a future where abortion is unthinkable. We work to make the culture more pro-life! We are grateful to all of you who join us in this mission and help us do this through your prayers, activism and financial support.
And even though “politics is downstream of culture,”vii another thing that we can do to fight the evil of abortion is to vote for pro-life laws, politicians, and ballot initiatives. There will be another life-related amendment to the Missouri state constitution in 2026. This time “YES” on Amendment 3 on November 3rd is the pro-life vote.viii And while virtually no pro-life law, candidate, or amendment is perfect, this one will rescind the proabortion amendment that narrowly passed two years ago.
Please pray for and promote the passage of Amendment 3 and get involved where you can. See the below list of resources offering specific ways to engage in the good fight. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”ix
Vote YES on 3 on November 3rd!
