Planned Parenthood released their annual report for 2019-2020 last Friday. It is in stark contrast to the continual argument that abortion constitutes a small fraction of its activities. In 2019, the abortion giant performed 354,871 abortions, the most it has ever performed in a given year—a 2.6 percent increase from 2018. In contrast, adoption referrals decreased by 37.6 percent.
Long-term trends revealed health care for women is not exactly the focus of Planned Parenthood. More resources were steered away from services for women’s health between 2009-2019:
- breast exams fell by over 63 percent;
- HPV vaccinations fell by more than seven percent;
- prenatal services fell by more than 72 percent;
- yet, abortions increased 7.7 percent.
The report indicates the number of abortions Planned Parenthood performs continues to go up as the national abortion rate declines. Since 1999, the number of abortions performed in the U.S. has fallen by over 34 percent, while the number of abortions performed by Planned Parenthood has increased by over 94 percent.
“Health care for women is so important. Sadly, that is not the focus of an organization that receives over half a billion dollars in government funds for ‘women’s health.’ Abortion is not health care, and it never will be,” noted Vitae Foundation President Debbie Stokes. “We must also remember that Planned Parenthood only performs one-third of all abortions in this country. There is much work to be done reaching women and empowering them with real health care and hope.”
